Continuing care redress

Interaction of continuing care and NHS-funded nursing care

This letter of advice to strategic health authorities (SHAs) aims to ensure that the correct process is being used to differentiate between people who receive fully funded NHS continuing care and the high band of NHS-funded nursing care.

Care home residents awarded fully funded NHS continuing care retrospectively

The Health Service Ombudsman published a report 'NHS Funding for Long Term Care of Older and Disabled People' in February 2003. In the light of the findings of the report some care home residents are being retrospectively awarded free NHS continuing care.
