If we are to ensure that children and adults are looked after in a way that preserves their dignity and peace of mind, it is vital that we have a world class workforce that is skilled, dedicated and valued and supported to do its best.

The Department of Health is committed to working with stakeholders, including Skills for Care and employers, to develop a robust business case to establish a Social Care Skills Academy (SCSA). A steering group under the chairmanship of Chris Humphries CBE, Director-General of City and Guilds has been established to take forward this work.

To support NHS organisations undergoing a period of workforce change, a new Framework was produced by NHS Employers. Launched jointly with the Department of Health the Framework is a collection of advice and good practice to encourage NHS organisations to maximise employment opportunities for staff, particularly those displaced or at risk of redundancy.
