New data capturing and reporting arrangements, published today are to be used from the 1 July for medicines use review (MUR). A MUR takes place between a pharmacist and a patient, and covers the patient’s medication and the support they need to get the most from their medicines. These changes are being published now to give pharmacy contractors preparatory time before the changes come into effect.
While pharmacies have been able to offer the service as part of the community pharmacy contractual framework since April 2005, new data capturing and reporting arrangements will effect what is reported to the primary care trust (PCT).
Pharmacists will no longer need to complete the current medicines use review form for each patient if they do not wish. They will need to capture the data for each patient as sent out in ‘dataset to be retained by pharmacy contractors’. They will need to use this data to complete the template (reporting template for PCTs) and this needs to be returned quarterly to their PCT if requested.
What information and when it is sent to the patient’s GP is also being revised (‘template GP feedback’ forms). This is being published now to give contractors preparation time before the changes come into effect. The timing of this change is subject to amendment of Secretary of State Directions and these Direction amendments are expected to be in force shortly.
