The General Ophthalmic Services Contracts (Continuing Education and Training Allowance) Payment Directions 2012 comes into force today, 27 June, 2012. The directions sets out arrangements for payments for loss of earnings in respect of continuing education and training undertaken in 2011 by optometrists and ophthalmic medical practitioners.

A letter from Derek Busby, Eye Care Services published alongside the directions provides information on the level of payment, which can be claimed between 1 July and 31 October 2012. It is aimed at optometrists and practitioners on primary care trust lists. The letter includes NHS sight test fees, payments for continuing education and training and pre-registration supervisors grant. This information is for the attention of all staff dealing with general ophthalmic services, optometrists and ophthalmic medical practitioners.
