Details

The National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) closed and effectively ceased operation on the 9 July 2012, prior to its final abolition in October 2012.

The NPSA’s functions have transferred from the agency as part of a managed transition process towards closure. The last substantive function to transfer was the patient safety function which moved to the NHS Commissioning Board Authority on 1 June 2012.

Previous annual reports were published on the NPSA website

Liberating the NHS: Report of the arm’s-length bodies review, published in July 2010, recommended that the NPSA be abolished, proposing that some functions should be carried out by the NHS Commissioning Board, while others would be supported to continue in other ways.
