A conversation on the values and principles of the NHS Constitution is taking place on Twitter today, Tuesday, from 1-2pm using the hashtag #nhsconstitution

It is being led by Professor Steve Field, chair of the NHS Future Forum, which is advising the government on ways to strengthen the Constitution.

The Future Forum is also discussing the Constitution on the NHS Constitution blog.

The NHS Constitution sets out in one place what patients, staff and the public can expect from the NHS in England. It lays out:

  • patient and staff rights
  • the pledges the NHS is committed to achieve
  • the responsibilities that patients, staff and the public owe to one another and to the health service.

A formal public consultation will be held later this year, giving everyone a chance to have their say about the proposed changes.
