Details

The department is running regional and local pilot Be Clear on Cancer campaigns in January 2013 to improve public awareness of cancer symptoms. The campaign is set to encourage those people with symptoms to see their GP earlier and uses TV, radio, public events, press and poster advertising.

Mike Richards, National Cancer Director has written to trust chief executives reminding them of these campaigns and some of the implications for secondary care providers.

Cancer networks are supporting the campaigns by working with primary and secondary care providers, as well as running additional community engagement activities. All Be Clear on Cancer campaigns are evaluated. The government is committed to improving cancer survival in this country and has set an ambition to save an additional 5,000 lives every year by 2014/15. The Department of Health is promoting a range of actions, include cancer symptom awareness campaigns to respond to this and support earlier diagnosis of cancer, thereby improving the scope for successful treatment and achieve better survival outcomes.
