This letter updates NHS Trusts and NHS Foundation Trusts providing cancer services on implementation activities for the Cancer Outcomes and Services Dataset, and reminds NHS providers of cancer services that they should be working to implement the dataset by January 2013.

The letter sets out how this new dataset (ROCR/OR/2142/FT6/001MAND), approved by the Information Standards Board, is critical to providing the high quality business intelligence required to improve patient outcomes for cancer and achieve the level of ambition set by the government - to save 5,000 additional lives each year by 2014/15.
