Dr Daniel Poulter MP

Biography

Dan Poulter was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Health in September 2012. He was elected Conservative MP for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich on 6 May 2010.

Education

Dan studied law at Bristol University and has a degree in medicine from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine.

Political career

He was a member of the Health Select Committee, Chair of the Parliamentary Group on Maternity, and an Officer of the Parliamentary group to improve global health.

Career outside politics

Before entering politics, Dan worked as an NHS hospital doctor specialising primarily in obstetrics, gynaecology and women’s health. He continues to practice medicine as an NHS hospital doctor on a part-time basis.

He has helped to set up medical and lifestyle advice clinics for the homeless and people with drug and alcohol misuse problems.

He was previously Deputy Leader of Reigate and Banstead Council.
