The Government has published its response to the Science and Technology Committee Report on Alcohol Guidelines.

The response sets out the Department of Health’s intention to commission a review, led by Dame Sally Davies, the UK’s principal medical adviser, to look at the current drinking guidelines, and the evidence base.

Clear and easily understood information is central to ensuring that everyone is aware of the risks of excessive alcohol consumption and can make informed choices about responsible drinking.

The previous review of alcohol guidelines was conducted in 1995, while guidelines on drinking alcohol in pregnancy and for young people were published in 2007 and 2009 respectively.
